Using the money donated for tea and coffee following our Sunday Morning Service we sponsor a child, Kristo Fushaj, through the Christian charity World Vision. Our sponsorship began in late 2014 when Kristo was 8 years old, he is now 10 (Jul 16).
Kristo lives with his parents and 4 sisters in a large city in northern Albania. Kristo helps out with chores at home and loves to play out when he has the chance. His favourite thing is football.
Kristo is part of the World Vision Shkodra Area Development Programme. The project is based in a large and growing city which is home to over 70,000 families. There is very high unemployment and, due to lack of arable land and lack of access to markets, agriculture in this region is low. Many parents are forced to migrate to find work and often spend many months away from their families.
The goal of the Development Programme is to have active communities which will enhance the well-being of their children and include giving them better access to education and improving the quality of the education. Many girls marry very young as a way of escaping poverty resulting in many not finishing their education. A priority of the Programme is to work with the communities to address child safety issues and provide access to better healthcare. The work in this area will continue to 2024.
